Just who is Felix Marisa and why would I want to work with her?
The short version: I’m a communicator, a visualizer, and a make-things-happen-er, and together, those skills let me see the shape of things to come. I am the type of person to come into an environment, take inventory of the situation and the available resources, and quickly set to arranging the details so that the objective or mission can be met. In other words, I like doing things by design.
What I’ve found is that there are so many energetic, enthusiastic, skilled and inspired people out there who are just looking for the right partner or right person on their team to help them see their vision through.
Maybe they’re still defining what that is. Maybe they know what it is, but not how to build it. Maybe they know they have a talent to offer, and are asking the big question of life: What do I do with it? And when you need a little outside perspective from someone with a lot of experience starting and launching (and failing and trying again), well, that’s where I come in.
CREDENTIALS
My educational background is in English & creative writing, and I used that to fuel a career in journalism and marketing that has exposed me to a number of different industries and niches. At one time, my clients included a women’s fitness studio, a customer research firm, a blues musician, two different authors of children’s books, and a recycling company. My main experience has been planning and producing content and collateral, and that often expanded to helping orchestrate events, manage internal communications and planning sessions, and connect the moving pieces between each department or unit. In some instances I’ve been a one-person creative agency - planning, producing and publishing everything from articles and blogs to videos to newsletters to coloring books.
In 2015, I completed certification in Conscious Feminine Leadership from Women Writing for (a) Change in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 2022, I completed a Permaculture Design Course certification through Cincinnati Permaculture Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In nearly everything else, I am self-taught and continue to be self-teaching. I’ve done video and audio editing, digital illustration, website designs, and desktop publishing - whatever the project called for. The value of this broad experience means that now when I lead a project, I know what I’m asking of my team and what goes in to every wish list item and add-on. I believe in maximizing the return on effort, which can get lost in the space between big dreams and bottom lines.
My Goals and Values
I am utterly in love with the horizon and I aim for the other side. The thrill of the chase is the joy of life.
I want to work with non-profits, businesses and individuals with a mission to create, educate, and build community. I am most motivated by progress and a sense of contribution to something bigger. I am looking for opportunities to do something different, bold, memorable, and effective.
I dream of being steward to a plot of land and using permaculture practices to generate food, materials, an ecosystem and a way of life to those who live there.
About the name “Felix”
Felix means “happy” and “fortunate” in Latin and was a pen named that turned into a nickname because it does, indeed, make me feel happy and fortunate to hear it. Call me Felix, call me Marisa, call me both, just don’t call me because you’ve been trying to reach me about my car’s extended warranty.
What I Do for Fun
I love the great outdoors and enjoy gardening, camping, hiking, crafting, and visiting natural history museums, zoos, and aquariums. (If traveling to any city with an aquarium, I make it a point to visit.) I like to read about psychology, science, and mindfulness. I’m a big fan of sci-fi, fantasy, and gaming. I have a special affinity for gnomes.
